About Naala Djookan

Naala Djookan Healing Centre is a service that supports women, children and families at risk of or experiencing family and domestic violence (FDV), to access the support and assistance they require to promote safe, healthy relationships and overall wellbeing.

Naala Djookan Healing Centre provides a ‘soft’ entry point for women and children who are experiencing FDV, and who might otherwise be reluctant to engage with an FDV service as a result of the perception of shame and stigma associated with FDV. The Healing Centre seeks to simplify access to specialist FDV and other support services through a range of integrated and specialist evidence-based services in one safe, inclusive, culturally responsive and welcoming location.  We are committed to providing a culturally safe and welcoming environment for all women and children that access the service.

We are committed to ensuring everyone feels welcome. We are inclusive of people from all different backgrounds including those from Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander communities.

Naala Djookan Story

Naala Djookan (“Our Sisters”) comes from the Nyoongar Dreaming Story of the Seven Sisters. Four of the sisters from the Nyoongar Dreaming Story form the Southern Cross which is reflected in the four points of the butterfly.

The butterfly is the symbol used by Naala Djookan Healing Centre as it not only represents the Nyoongar Dreaming Story but the continuation of life’s journey. Naala Djookan Healing Centre aims to provide guidance and support to someone to heal and continue on their journey following their trauma.

With all of its fragile beauty, the butterfly also represents courage. It takes great courage to carry out the changes necessary in the process of personal and spiritual growth.
