About Our Programs and Workshops

Naala Djookan’s programs and activities are planned out and updated quarterly. While our programs and events are for women and children in the community, priority is given to women and children who have experienced, are experiencing or at risk of experiencing family and domestic violence. 

Registration for programs is essential and can be done by selecting your program of choice below.

Yoga

Learn how to practice meditation, relaxation, and posture, to reduce physical and mental distress and improve your quality of life.

*One Yoga session per person, per week permitted. Any additional bookings will be cancelled without notice.

Nyoongar language and yarning session

A safe place for women with an interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture
and heritage. Stay connected to your community by building respectful relationships and passing on heritage knowledge through sharing and learning the Nyoongar language.

Craft and chat

Participate in craft activities including painting, drawing, pot decoration, jewellery making, collage and more, while enjoying a chat over a cup of tea or coffee.

Family and domestic violence awareness workshop

This workshop will help you understand the different forms of family and domestic violence and how to recognise the patterns/warning signs and ways to keep you and your children safe by reducing risk.

Protective behaviours for female parents, guardian and caregivers

During this workshop, you will be able to assist your child/young person to develop lifelong skills of assertiveness, self-confidence, problem-solving, communication, resilience and help-seeking. This will assist your child/young person to feel safer physically and emotionally throughout their life.

Financial counselling workshop

This workshop will assist you to learn strategies on budgeting, how to deal with immediate financial problems and managing finances to achieve your own financial stability.

Protective behaviours for children aged 5-11

A personal safety program that
teaches children the skills and
strategies to identify, respond to
and seek assistance in a range
of unsafe situations.

Drop in legal clinic

A free one-hour, one-on-one session with a lawyer to discuss legal issues specifically around family and domestic violence and family law. Advice may not be available for other matters.

For female adults only; children cannot attend.

Naala friendship group

This session aims to build friendships among community women. Bring your own craft projects, have a cup of tea or coffee, involve in group conversations, make friends and inspire or be inspired.

Drumming for wellness

Join us to experience the healing power of drumming and the joy of finding your rhythm in a safe space. Drumming induces deep relaxation, lowers blood pressure and reduces stress.

Dance to heal

Dance is a powerful form of emotional expression where a person makes a connection with their body and mind. Dancing helps to reduce stress and increase confidence, self-awareness and a feeling of happiness. Heal your body and soul through dancing in a safe place. Beginners are always welcome.

Strength and gentleness

Create your own grounding object in a session of sharing and creativity. Learn about the power of using grounding techniques in a way that is gentle, subtle and can be done anywhere.

Kids and anxiety

Whilst some feelings of anxiety can be a normal part of a child’s development, an increasing number of children are experiencing higher levels of anxiety that are impacting on their everyday life. This workshop aims to assist parents and carers to understand anxiety and will provide simple strategies to use at home. For female carers of children 3-12 years.

Setting boundaries

Setting limits whilst still being a loving parent is an important part of raising responsible children. This introductory program addresses what boundaries are, why they are important and how parents and carers can help children develop boundaries for themselves. For female carers of children 2-12 years.

Heart to heart parenting

This is a safe and supportive space offering mothers who understand the impacts of family violence time to share the ups and downs of raising children. This program supports mums to connect to their own parenting wisdom, acknowledge their strengths and discover new parenting techniques. Open to all mothers who have experienced family violence.

Family fun time

For children and mothers who have faced family violence. This program invites mothers to have fun with their children through a range of activities including play, craft, movement and sensory activities. 0-5 years and 6-11 years age groups available.

Popping bubbles

For children aged 0-5 years and their mothers. Offers a safe space for mothers of young children, who have faced family violence, to reconnect with their children’s emotions through fun and stimulating games and activities.
